Sandasiri Dunuwila is situated in remote Teldeniya, Kandy. The school had been given some PCs from LAcNet sometime back and the computer instructor was teaching the students with those computers. Recently SEMP (Secondary Education Modernization Project) provided a well-equipped computer lab as well to the school. But the school does not have internet access yet.
If you are a frequent visitor to this blog you may wonder how the students are uploading there essays to the website. It is an interesting story. The students started writing essays on paper and then got them scanned and sent them to me through email from a cybercafé. Their teacher had helped them for this. I set up this blog for the school and uploaded the scanned essays to the blog initially. I also had to typeset the essays for the readers to read them easily.
Once the students learnt word processing from their computer teacher, they started sending me the essays as MS WORD files through emails from a cybercafé.
It will be better if someone can help this school with an internet connection so that the students can upload their own posts to the blog. The students’ English skills are improving remarkably due to blogging. If they get Internet access, they will learn even faster. I can teach them basic computer knowledge electronically. I can handover the blog to the students once they get Internet.
Please contact the school principal if you are interested in helping the school.
